Friday, May 10th from 6 pm - 9 pm  
Saturday, May 11th from 8:30 am - 1 pm

HOW TO REGISTER FOR TRYOUTS:

1. You MUST first sign up for tryouts online

2. Fill out required forms linked below & bring them to check in on May 10th.

IMPORTANT: YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO AUDITION WITHOUT THIS PHYSICAL FORM FILLED OUT AND SIGNED BY A PHYSICIAN AFTER NOVEMBER 4TH, 2018

- Insurance Form

- Waiver

- WIN Number or proof of acceptance to WMU

- $30 audition fee cash or check (checks made out to WMU with Dance Team in the memo) 

- You DO NOT need a sickle cell test, only a physical is required. 

SCHEDULE:

Day 1: Friday, May 10th 

Learning Day 

Doors will open & registration will begin at 5:30pm 

Auditions will begin at 6:00pm

First Cuts will be made at the conclusion of Day 1

Day 2: Saturday, May 11th

Performance Day

Doors will open at 8:30 am for check in

Auditions will begin at 9:00 am
Across the floor jazz technique/hip hop skills

Perform Fight Song and combos in small groups

Interviews

Final Cuts

Mandatory team meeting with the new team following auditions from 2pm-3pm 

AUDITION FEE: $30 @ the door on May 10th

Cash or checks accepted

Checks made payable to Western Michigan University with "Dance Team" in the memo.

WHAT TO WEAR:

- Tops: Must wear a half top or sports bra

- Bottoms: Spandex Shorts Preferred but can also wear jazz Pants or Leggings 

- Shoes: Must have some type of jazz/turning shoe, sneakers are acceptable for hip hop

HAIR:

Day 1: Up to dancers discretion 

Day 2: Must be game day ready (Full Make-Up & Full Hair)

- Game Day Ready hair must be worn down but please feel free to pin bangs back, or wear hair half up half down. We want to see your face while you are dancing :)

TECHNIQUE:

Technique combination will be learned on day 1 and performed across the floor and scored by the judging panel on day 2. 

MINIMUM REQUIRED TECHNIQUE:

• Triple Pirouette
• High Battements/Kicks 
• A La Seconde turns (a minimum of 7 rotations into a triple pirouette)
• Turning Calypso leap
• Turning disc (straight leg leap)
• Grande Jetes 
• Center leaps

Highly Suggested Skills:

• Leg extensions/ turning leg holds
• Advanced leap variations (switch, double attitude, reverse, etc.)
• Advanced turning sequences
• Kip-up
• Head spring
• Ariels

Reminders:

- Pack a snack & water.

- You can NOT, under any circumstance audition without a physical.

Audition Prep Clinic 2019

Western Michigan Dance Team will be hosting an Audition Prep Clinic for high school and college dancers who strive to be a part of a collegiate dance team in their future or would like to work on their technique and style. Participants will work on jazz and pom technique, learn part of the WMU fight song, a short jazz combo, and take part in a Q&A session regarding auditions.

When: Saturday, January  26th

Where: Read Fieldhouse

Time: 9 AM - 12 PM

Game: 2:00 PM 

Cost: 

Clinic and Tee shirt: $55

Wear: This is up to the dancer's discretion, however: form-fitting dance attire & jazz shoes are preferred. Dancers typically wear jazz pants, leggings, or fitted shorts. Some type of dance/jazz shoe is required.
